To me, Brut is equal to Drakkar Noir and Eternity for Men in terms of nostalgia and scent-quality. It's a dynamite fragrance! I guess its heft and potency made me insecure and worried that it would smell "dated," to the point that I thought it was "dated" instead of just appreciating it as a fragrance that I actually find incredibly nice.

It's got that shaving cream/barbershop vibe. Why is Brut not in my collection? It has a lot of characteristics that I like in a classic smelling men's fragrance. I want to get YSL Rive Guache which smells like Azzaro Pour Homme, has a prominent anise note, smells like Barbosol shaving cream. I love the smell of Barbosol shaving cream. So I was thinking.I love the anise note and shaving cream vibe of Azzaro Pour Homme. I also read that Rive Gauche itself was inspired by Brut. And I remember reading reviews saying that if Brut was repackaged as a Tom Ford scent, people would go nuts for it. They're very nice but just too powdery and sweet for my taste. So I was also thinking about barbershop fougeres, and how Tom Ford's Beau de Jour and Fougere D'Argent are somewhat similar to RG, and supposedly very good representations of the barbershop fougere genre. I got my Azzaro Pour Homme tin and from it, I get a high-quality shaving cream scent that lasts like an EdC/EdT. Yeah, I'm sure I missed out, but oh well. So, I don't need to lament missing the boat on RG. Current APH deo spray has the same prominent anise note as vintage, but smells much more shaving cream-like, an aspect that I very much like. Current Azzaro is extremely dirty, and is similar to the dirty musky drydown of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme (2002-2009 formulation). Vintage is very fresh/clean with a hint of muskiness. In its deodorant spray form, both vintage and current. I never smelled it, but I knew it's reputation and still passed on it when I could have got it for retail price.Īnyways, I've been really digging Azzaro Pour Homme lately. I think of Rive Gauche Pour Homme as the one that got away. It's become my "gentlemanly" scent amongst my favourites which typically consist of "seduction in a bottle" fragrances like Gucci Envy and Chanel Egoiste. I'm waiting to snag a bottle for cheap on Ebay. :-? Maybe I should give it a few more chances.Īzzaro Pour Homme to me is completely different compared to Brut and Rive Gauche Pour Homme, but fantastic in its own right. I'm not sure if I want it that badly now based on the longevity factor. I honestly hoped it would last longer on my wrist, especially when the test-squirt of Azzaro Onyx on my other arm lasted all day. BRUT!! A few hours later, it kinda died quickly. But a few minutes later, the middle notes evoked that reminiscent feeling of the very cold Christmas 1997, and I thought. At first blast, I didn't think it smelled like Brut. I went out testing today, and FINALLY found YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme.

Again, I'm following up on the recommendations you fine folks have given me so far, based on me already owning Faberge Brut for years and it was my first cologne back in 1997 or so.
